The city was given a big statue for free, and took it down. Wastrels.

And just as quick somebody started a petition to, er, "re-erect" the statue.

If this statue had appeared in Portland OR or Fremont WA, it would have been celebrated.  And worshipped.  Vancouver, despite a large gay community, is rather a bit more conservative.
