Books -- or almost all books anyway -- list the previous books by the author on the inside frontispiece.

CDs -- or almost all CDs anyway -- do *not* list the previous CDs by the musician.

Yzzat?

I imagine that has to do with record companies and producers and rights.

Authors have different publishers, just like musicians. Books go out of print, just like music. The listing of previous books serves two purposes, to establish the author's bona fides and to alert the reader to other works she might enjoy -- just like music. The parallels are many, and I can't think of any differences that explain this -- other than "convention."

You aren't particularly familiar with the music industry, are you?
While on the surface you may be right, on the inside the music industry is more like the mob and less like the publishing industry. I assure you at least part of the reason has to do with producers and people not agreeing to mentioned on labels elsewhere or companies not allowing it. Much like all movies are the same price regardless of time in the theater or interest, there are some conventions that are not messed with due to peace and stability issues between the companies and players.
