| I've been trying to buy a replacement driver for my speaker system on E-Bay. They're no longer made so a used unit is my only option. One seller lists his driver as "condition: sold for parts or not working" even though his description says it is tested functional. I asked him why. - Quote :
- last line of the description:
sold for parts or not working to protect me from thieves on eBay. This People buy and then stealing parts ... Then they tell eBay that what was sent is not as described I will not play Their game, so I show on video of what you're buying. if you need the video let me know, thanks Seems to me this is less to protect him from scammers as it is a scam to sell unworking parts without recourse. I'm staying away. |

| Unfortunately, the guy has a valid point. There are a lot of scam buyers on e-bay who claim to never have received the item, or that the shipping container was empty on receipt. E-bay and PayPal policy is to always accept these buyers' claims, return their money, and charge the seller for the selling price and extra charges they add on for handling the claim.
I would never sell anything on e-bay unless it was to a local person who was willing to come pick up the item and leave me a handful of cash. The only things I have ever purchased on e-bay are small items that would be unprofitable for the seller to fake and wouldn't bother me if they did.
But the way this guy is handling it, I wouldn't buy from him. either.
Have you tried to find a driver from a different speaker that could be used? I've had friends do just that, sometimes for replacement, and sometimes for an upgrade. Of course, you would want to change the drivers in both speakers (but you know that). |

| How about this place? They have a single driver for sale. But they are in Colorado; not sure what currency they are using there. |

| Did you see this one on Bay?I have no idea what these parts are worth, but they seem to be valuable to the sellers. |

| Yes. This is the seller who has rejected my offer of $125 twice.
I shan't make a third.
This is (at least) the third time he's listed at $249.99 with no takers. |

| Maybe I should offer the guy $90. Get him off his ass.
Looking on various sites, this seems to be an expensive bit. It seems a little scary to pay a large sum of money for a used component as fragile as this one.
I made a couple of calls to guys I thought may have the parts. One of them did have a pair of the 1000M speakers but sold them long ago. I called another guy who was in the stereo equipment repair business for many years. Turns out he's dead. No help there. Very inconsiderate, if you ask me. |

| Dead, huh? Probably couldn't get parts.
"Fragile"? That isn't the first word that comes to mind when you hold one of these puppies in your hand. They weigh eleven pounds apiece, more than most woofers. Christ, they have a 4" voice coil (or is it 5"?) |

| But inside those huge magnets are fragile components.
Do you know if a JA-0802 can be used as a suitable replacement? It's from a newer model and might be easier to find. Although I think it's even bigger than the JA-0801.

| I had never heard of the JA-0802a before -- apparently not sold outside Japan. They certainly *look* identical. Source - Quote :
- I measured the (JA-0802A) and the results are impressive. The driver sounding enormous loud and very clear. The results are better than (JA-0801)(NS-1000) but I cannot afford to hear a big difference. I think the mainly hearing difference The NS-2000 using other drivers. (JA-0526A)tweeter and (JA-0802A)midrange. The drivers are even more exclusive and heavier than the NS-1000 types.

| This probably won't make you happy either. Maybe there's some way you can get in touch with this guy and let him know you're in the market. |
