There's a church (or a "center for spirituality" as they fashion themselves) on my way to work and they have some of the most amazing banners from time to time. This morning it said something about "Hope, Faith & Miracles" and how (I'm sure) for a few dollars per month they would put the god on your side.

Made me think about the tension between the idea of a "miracle" -- which by its very nature is outside the realm of possibility -- and the idea of selling indulgences or influence with the god, which date back to feudal days when peasants bought access to the lord of the manor.

I guess the absurdity of it just tickles my funnybone.

Anyone who would believe in god would believe he can be bribed.
