Every time I'm in the neighborhood I thumb through the collection of CDs at Half Price Books. They often have items I've never seen before, and it's a cheap ($3-5) way to experiment.
Yesterday I picked up a cool looking CD of "German solo cantatas for bass, violin and basso continuo from the 17th century" by Peter Kooij called "Mein Herz ist Bereit."
Now, if I'd been more musically literate I'd have known that a "cantata" is a vocal piece with instrumental accompaniment, and I'd have known that the "bass" in question is not a bass viol, as I'd assumed.
Oh well. Mr. Kooij has a lovely voice.
