I spent the past couple of days in Eastern Washington, a hotbed (like Idaho) of redneck Trump supporters. Lots of guns and pickups and American flags.
Got me to thinking.
Wide open spaces, low population density, miles to the nearest neighbor... I'll bet the appeal of having a shared enemy is powerful. The sense of community engendered by everybody waving the same flag, posting the same bumper sticker. Makes the prairies less lonely.
Still, these people CLAIM that morality and law & order are important. No drop in support when the ORC was convicted of sexual assault. We'll see if Alvin Bragg's, Letitia James' and Jack Smith's upcoming indictments move the needle.
Somehow I doubt it. He's become a symbol more than a real live person.
He wears a halo of invincibility.
