Today, I am teaching myself a foreign language by watching the 1948 movie, "Abbot & Costello meet Frankenstein" with Dutch subtitles.

Did you know the Dutch word for coffin is "doodkist"?

The reasons fairly scintillate the imagination.

Yeah, I was going for scintillation.

Which reason are you questioning? The fact that I am attempting to learn Dutch, or the fact that I'm using an old movie to do so?

It was probably her fault. Moose don't like to be teased. Especially about their looks.

"Verstop dat hoofd" means "Hide that head."

Valuable education.

"Conversational Dutch" learned from Abbott & Costello movies would probably be pretty entertaining.

My wife works for a Dutch bank. Maybe I can come up with something to impress them in casual conversation. "Hide that Head" seems promising. Or maybe, "Sluit me op." which means "Lock me in."

Here's a line you should be able to insert into numerous conversations: "Dracula een gevaarlijk persoon is." Dracula is a very dangerous person.
