Then again, maybe not. A podcast I just listened to made an interesting point. Carlson was the highest rated show on Fox, and his show had the highest ratings of any show on cable. Period. But his content was toxic. Mainstream advertisers, like Ford or BoA or Nike or General Mills, they would not advertise on Tucker's show. They did not want to be associated with Nazi hate speech, and wouldn't touch his show with a ten foot pole. Instead, Fox was reduced to selling cut-rate advertising to the pillow guy, and cryptocurrencies, and gold scammers, and underground bunker manufacturers. For all Tucker's HUGE audience, he wasn't making any money for the Murdochs. His firing was as much an economic decision as "for cause" for calling his boss a cunt, in company e-mails. Which he also did. |
