Covid Origin Story

This news item sounded like a big deal from the headline:
House Votes To Declassify Info About Origins Of COVID-19

But reading down through it, you run across this paragraph:

If signed into law, the measure would require within 90 days the declassification of “any and all information relating to potential links between the Wuhan Institute of Virology and the origin of the Coronavirus Disease.”

So, in reality, there may not BE any classified information on the origins of Covid.

Quote :

Experts say the true origin of the coronavirus pandemic, which has killed more than 1 million Americans, may not be known for many years — if ever.

The "smoking gun" that Josh Hawley is fishing for will likely turn out to be a lot of nothing, or if anything, a little bit of evidence of zootic origin.

Why are people so fucking stupid?

The subtext of the "origin story" never really gets pulled out and exposed by the media. The SARS-cov2 virus may have arisen in the wild, or it may have been created in the Wuhan lab. So what?

To any sane person it is pretty obvious that if it did originate from the lab, it was an accidental release, an escape, not a biological warfare event. The only real reason to do all this digging into the origin is the hope that some people have that they can accuse China of a heinous crime against humanity. Maybe they think that will excuse the incompetence of TFG somehow? Obviously it wouldn't, but that's the sort of "reasoning" I think we're seeing.

It's truly pathetic.

Last night Dr. Peter Hotez was on Ari Melber and he started his appearance with a very stark statistic:

200,000 Americans died of COVID-19 after vaccines were readily available, free, and safe.

It has been widely reported that dis- and misinformation was disseminated and promoted by right-wing media outlets like Fox and OANN, but rarely does anyone put a number on the result of that disinformation campaign.  Even today, many public figures are telling untruths about the safety and efficacy of the vaccine, and for that reason the public's faith in science and disease treatment is not rock solid.

The vaccines were completed in record time.  They were over 90% effective. And they were safe.
