"Brave Genius" is about Jacques Monod and Albert Camus, their friendship, their involvement in WWII and how it shaped their subsequent careers. So far, I'm 66 pages in and it's all about the war: troop movements, Nazi duplicity about saying one thing and doing another, promising not to take territory and then breaking their promise. The Allies keep giving Hitler the benefit of the doubt, only to have him seize new territories and commit new atrocities because he hasn't had to pay any price for the Allies' appeasement. It all seems familiar, somehow.... I'm not enjoying WWII troop movements. Not sure how much farther I'm going to read -- paging ahead, the War seems to take up at least 400 of the book's 582 pages. |
