| Ayman Mohideen had a panel on tonite, rating Biden on his first year in office. All three of them gave him a B.
He got some good stuff done -- American Rescue Plan, vaccine rollout, scaled-down Infrastructure Bill -- but he failed utterly in the really important stuff: voting rights. Abortion. Police reform.
The point was made that he's acting like he's still a Senator. Trying to find consensus on everything, trying to be bipartisan, offering compromise as his opening strategy.
For someone who spent 8 years as VP to a president who was stopped in his tracks by Mitch McConnell, he seems irrationally optimistic about working with Mitch.
He's president now. He needs to put on his big boy pants and throw his weight around. He needs to lead, rather than follow. He needs to tell people how things are going to be, he needs to grab the Senate by the balls.
I remember Lynden Johnson drumming up support for Civil Rights. He played hard, he played hardball, he played dirty. But in the end he bullied the Dixiecrats into signing on.
I would have given Biden much lower than a B. He's wasted his "honeymoon year" and come the mid-terms he'll be a sitting lame duck.
I have two suggestions.
1. Appoint Joe Manchin and Kirsten Sinema to cabinet positions. Get them OUT of the Senate and fill their seats with Democrats.
2. Step down. Let Harris take the wheel. She has no need for caution, no love for Mitch, no illusions about the existential threats we face. If you can't lead, get out of the way. |

| Manchin really needs to meet a 2nd Amendment solution. |

| I wouldn't go that far. Manchin is an arch conservative, from a coal-mining state, and he himself owns a coal company. He's not evil. He's just feathering his own nest, and those of his coal-baron supporters. |

| Biden is still talking like a Senator. He needs to put on his Big Boy pants and start throwing insurrectionists out of Congress and into jail. This cancer has metasticized for so long now that it may be impossible to remove. |

| New plan. Not mine, I hasten to add -- this plan is being openly promoted by Republican congressional candidates.
If Republicans gain a majority in the House (which is widely predicted), they plan to immediately impeach Joe Biden. On what grounds? Doesn't matter.
If Joe is impeached, his trial would be held in the Senate. If Democrats hold their slim majority (widely predicted), they COULD vote to acquit, as Republicans did twice with Trump.
Or -- here's my new plan -- use the opportunity to retire Old Joe and bring the first female President, the second President of color, and the most progressive President since JFK to office. She'd have two years to prove herself. If she proves herself, she'd still be eligible for two full terms. |
