| Years ago, when I worked in an electronic manufacturing facility, we got a service manual for some piece of equipment (I forget which) and, among the troubleshooting procedures, was this: - Quote :
- "Apply mechanical shock."
In other words, smack the damn thing.I always laughed about that advice, it's so simple, so universal, and so low-tech. And yet, even NASA occasionally has to revert to it. |

| The UHF transceiver we used in my squadron was mechanically aligned. To ensure it would hold the alignment, it was subjected to a "drop check" or "drop test," which is just what it sounds like. ARC-27. Approximately 50 tubes and 70 lbs. |
