Mrs. NoCo will put on her turn signals at a stop sign, even if there are no other cars in the intersection. She says "It's habit, it's a good habit to just automatically use your turn signals whenever you're making a turn."
I say "Wrong."
That's exactly WHY you shouldn't make a habit of it, if you do you automatically assume other drivers see your signal and you're likely to plow ahead even if they didn't see your signal. Instead, it's better to be fully aware of the cars around you, make eye contact if you can, and only advance into the intersection if the other driver acknowledges your intended action.
So I never use signals at an empty intersection. I sometimes don't even brake for stop signs.
