Anti Intellectualism

The current resurgence of anti intellectualism in society takes many forms.

• Anti-vaxxers who claim, without proof, that vaccinations cause autism.  You can blame our current measles epidemic on them
  
  
• Flat Earthers who claim that all the scientists and pilots and astronauts (and everybody else, frankly) are in a huge conspiracy to cover up the fact that the earth is a big disc held up by turtles
  
  
• Moon landing deniers, ditto
  
  
• Climate change deniers
  
  
• Abortion-causes-breast-cancer proponents (yes, this is a real claim)
  
  
• "Donald Trump is the greatest president in history" claimants
  
  
• "Vinyl is more accurate than digital" proponents
  
  
• Hillary Clinton ran a child sex-slave ring out of a DC pizza shop
  
  
• Fox news is fair and balanced (Fox is at ground zero of many beliefs on this list)
  
  
• The economy is controlled by a cabal of Jews
  
  
• The media is controlled by a cabal of Jews / "deep state operatives" (code word for Jews)
  
  
• "Elites" and "academic intellectuals" (more code words for Jews) are bent on destroying American exceptionalism
  

There is some evidence that Russian "counter-intelligence" (note the irony here) is using social media to promote many of the ideas listed here.

I chose to post this in "Religion. Or Not" because like religion, believers are immune to arguments from facts.  They believe their beliefs are in fact sacrosanct, part of their human rights, and should not be challenged.  By definition anyone who disagrees with them is part of the organized opposition to their "truths."  Their WILLFUL and STRENUOUS resistance to common sense and logic presents one of the greatest dangers to a civil society, I believe. Without shared facts a democracy has difficulty existing.
