Boeing machinists rejected a contract offer this week which could've reduced their pensions, raised their healthcare costs and eliminated job security. Boeing had put this contract forward as a precondition to building their next big project in the Seattle area. It was voted down by 66% of the membership.
This after the state legislature was called into a special session to give
Boeing $10 billion in tax breaks if they built here. They are a very big gorilla in Washington State politics.

The last big Boeing aircraft, the 787, was largely built in a right-to-work state (South Carolina) with day-labor engineers and lowest bidder subcontractors. It's been plagued with problem after problem after problem, most of them related to unskilled labor or unskilled designers.
