David Quammen’s 2012 book on zoonosis—diseases that migrate from one species to another—is nearly 600 pages of detailed case studies, biographies, virology, immunology, tropical medicine and the vagaries therein.
I realized about halfway through, three months in, that I don’t care that deeply about the details.
It’s “The Hot Zone” for the 2010s and surely the Next Big One will kill lots of people. But it’s out of my hands.
Bottom line: don’t eat bats.
