| Subject: Features I want in an automobile touchscreen Thu Aug 16, 2018 7:14 am | |
| Having played briefly with the Tesla's huge 19" screen -- and now having played with a 2018 Subaru 9" touchscreen -- I'm coming up with a list of features I'd want in my next car (all of these I've seen, either in cars or on my phone):
- Sat-nav maps
- giving directions from A to B
- voice activated
- with live traffic and road closure info
- ability to search for nearby businesses ("find me the nearest pizza restaurant," "where is the closest Chevron station?")
- Onscreen map should show business names as you pass them
- AM-FM-CD-USB stereo controls including parametric EQ (most have track & volume controls on the steering wheel as well)
- Link with Pandora ("Pandora, play classical guitar")
- Climate control front/rear left/right = temp, air, defrost, a/c
- Info on the car's health, like oil pressure & changes due, tire pressure, temp, fuel level, next scheduled service, recall notices, etc.
- Miles to go (at current mpg) before refueling
- Diagnosis of any engine codes
- Integration with iPhone
- Updated live MPG
- Indications when braking too hard or accelerating too hard -- but with the ability to turn off or make extremely subtle
- "Find my car" links with smartphone
- "Siri"-like general information service ("Hey Siri, who was the King of Siam?")
- Emergency SOS call to 911 if airbags deploy
