| Kennedy was the rare kind of Republican you could disagree with, without hating him.

- Kavanaugh has been a long-rising star in conservative circles. After graduating from Yale Law School and serving out three prestigious clerkships, he made his first splash in Republican politics as part of the multipronged investigation into Bill and Hillary Clinton, led by Starr, in the 1990s.
Kavanaugh co-wrote a portion of the final Starr Report that made the case for Clinton’s impeachment. He also led the inquiry into the death of Vincent Foster, the deputy White House counsel whose suicide became the subject of tabloids and conspiracy theories (at times peddled by Trump himself).
Two years later, Kavanaugh was part of George W. Bush’s legal team in the fight over the 2000 presidential election recount. After a Supreme Court victory for Bush essentially meant the electoral defeat of Democratic nominee Al Gore, Kavanaugh took up various roles in the Bush White House, including in the Office of the White House Counsel. |

| He'd already picked law clerks. This wasn't planned. |

How long until this activist Roberts court begins overturning lower courts' rulings without needing an appeal first? |

| Saw a thing on TV recently, might've been on Rachel Maddow, about how Anthony Kennedy was convinced to step down because his protege, Bret Kavanaugh, had given guarantees about upholding Kennedy's reproductive rights agenda.
Obviously, that isn't happening.
I recall reading somewhere -- might've posted a link here? -- about how Kennedy was extorted into retiring by some threat against his family. I forget the details now.
Still, I wish it was something under investigation. It still smells rotten. |

| Snopes calls the allegation "unproven."Not disproven. Not false. Not three Pinocchios. "Unproven." Perhaps, when SDNY finally unseals Trump's Deutschebank records, and the Supreme Court allows them to be published, we'll finally find out why Kennedy suddenly resigned. I wonder what that will do to the makeup of the Court, to the legitimacy of Bret Kavanaugh? Kavanaugh should recuse himself from the Deutschebank case. |
