| Seattle City Council is expected to approve a fifteen dollar minimum wage later today. This will probably make the national news.
The grand experiment begins. |

| Actually, it probably began in SeaTac, which has a complex definition of which businesses have to pay the new wage and which don't. I believe the wages increase incrementally over the next four or five years. The airlines have already filed suit and won a decision that the law cannot apply to the airport employees.
California's minimum wage is increasing incrementally to $13 over the next few years. I cannot imagine the number of lawsuits that will ensue.
But, not matter what, hooray for Seattle.

| I know nothing about the people of Seattle. Are they strongly behind this? (By that, of course, I mean are they predominantly actual human beings or right wing robots?)

| Seattle's pretty liberal. We"re always #1 or #2 in the polls of most literate cities. |

| Senate parliamentarian threw out the national $15 minimum wage from the COVID relief bill.
Too bad. It's favored by 59% of voters. Hasn't been raised in 12 years.
Unintended consequences? Your $1 burger might cost $1.25. Immigration will spike. Lots more part-time workers and gig economy workers.
Benefits? HUGE positive impact to the economy (unlike rich people, poor people must spend their money). Unemployment would decline precipitously, as unemployment is no longer more remunerative. Huge boost in Biden's/Democrats' popularity.
I kinda hope the Dems either ignore the parliamentarian -- which is an option -- or float a new bill with nothiong on it but the $15 MW, and make the Pubes vote against it. See where that gets them in the mid-terms. |
