re: Ashli Babbit. This is the sort of crap question that has come up on Quora repeatedly over the past couple of months, with a sensible answer.
Was Ashli Babbitt unarmed when she was shot by the police during the US Capitol protests?
Oh come on! This is kindergarten level logic.
Look, when people decry police killing an unarmed person, usually a black man, they do so because the police were not being threatened by that man. It’s not only that he’s unarmed, it’s that he’s surrounded by cops or he’s actually turned around the other way and gets shot in the back or something like that. The police always say “I thought he might be reaching for a gun”, but it’s almost always bulls$%t and if those cops had just calmed down and not been so trigger happy they could have resolved the situation without violence.
Ashli Babbitt wasn’t specifically armed, but you can’t make a serious argument that she wasn’t a threat to the officers who shot her. She and the mob were attempting to break through the barrier to one of the fallback security positions in the Capitol Building. They were absolutely a threat, not only to the officers involved but to the elected officials they were there to protect. Ms. Babbitt and her fellows also received plenty of warning.
I just cannot imagine the meanness of spirit it takes to try to equate Ashli Babbitt’s death to those of the countless unarmed black people killed by police in this country. If you think the comparison is remotely apt then I pity you, for you’re so far down the rabbithole that you’re blind to basic facts and logic.
