Why is it, I wonder, that I still remember my license plate number from thirty years ago? I couldn't tell you my current license -- which I've had for 18 years now -- without looking.

Good question. I have no idea what my current license number is; I've had it for sixteen years. But I can tell you what my license number was fifty-three years ago.

The car my father had when I was a teenager (not yet old enough to drive) was 991 DNX. British licence plates don't even use that format any more.
