PostSubject: JFK Assassination Documents to be Released   Mon Oct 23, 2017 5:24 pm

Thursday October 26, 2017 we will finally see the remainder of the report of the Warren Commission declassified and made public.
Wikipedia wrote:
n November 1964, two months after the publication of its 889-page report, the Commission published twenty-six volumes of supporting documents, including the testimony or depositions of 552 witnesses and more than 3,100 exhibits.[17] All of the commission's records were then transferred on November 23 to the National Archives. The unpublished portion of those records was initially sealed for 75 years (to 2039) under a general National Archives policy that applied to all federal investigations by the executive branch of government,[18] a period "intended to serve as protection for innocent persons who could otherwise be damaged because of their relationship with participants in the case.”[19] The 75-year rule no longer exists, supplanted by the Freedom of Information Act of 1966 and the JFK Records Act of 1992. By 1992, 98 percent of the Warren Commission records had been released to the public.[20] Six years later, at the conclusion of the Assassination Records Review Board's work, all Warren Commission records, except those records that contained tax return information, were available to the public with redactions.[21] The remaining Kennedy assassination related documents are scheduled to be released to the public by October 26, 2017,[22] twenty-five years after the passage of the JFK Records Act.

So, we probably shouldn't expect much in those last 2%.

Still, wouldn't it be something if confirmation was forthcoming of the involvement of any of the following (all reputed at one point or another):

  • The Soviet Union
  • Cuba's government
  • Organized crime
  • The C.I.A.
  • Cuban nationalists pissed at Kennedy for the Bay of Pigs fiasco

You left out LBJ as a possible culprit.

I expect the last two percent to provide as much startling information and as many surprises as the first ninety-eight percent: ZIP.

God, how I hate conspiracy theories.

Quote :
President Donald Trump ordered the release of 2,800 documents on Thursday, the White House said in a call with reporters that afternoon. The release of a number of other documents with redactions will be postponed for 180 days to allow for further review, despite a decades-old law establishing this day as a deadline for the release of all remaining documents.

The story here says there are still "more than a hundred thousand pages of material" yet to be released (?)  I guess after the Justice Department gets done redacting it'll be a couple of 3x5 notecards.

What happens when lawmakers break their own laws?  Is this a case for the courts?  Or are we just SOL?

If you hate conspiracy theories, give one good logical non-covert reason why the remaining documents would need to be redacted. Just one, is all I'm askin'.

I think that probably the documents that various agencies are trying to keep hidden have some entries which reveal something stupid that someone said or did that they don't want released to avoid embarrassing politicians or agencies. Possibly there may be evidence of the CIA or FBI conducting illegal investigations. Crap like that. There will not be any startling news about Ray Charles being involved in the assassination.

So far I guess the documents reveal more questions than answers. This may be one of those instances where we think we might know what happened, but there's no way to be absolutely certain.

Therefore, controversy and conspiracy theories will still find adherents.
