Is Capitalism Dying?

One of the best articles I've read lately about the current state of western capitalism - and it's from Forbes.

Baby and bathwater.

Capitalism itself isn't ailing; it's just that "pro-business" legislatures have abrogated their responsibilities to regulate and hold accountable the larger corporations. Justice should enforce the Sherman Act, the EPA should enforce the Clean Air Act and the SEC should do its job. Although non-US corporations aren't regulated by these agencies, access to US markets could be made conditional on meeting the same standards.

Belling the cat.

More like "Frog and Scorpion" than "Baby and Bathwater."
It's in the nature of the corporation to destroy what it cannot own, even if in the process it destroys itself along with the economy which supports it..

"pro-business"? A more appropriate term would be "business-owned" legislatures.

When Adam Smith offered up the concept of capitalism, he described a system which would work just fine in local markets. He also included several restrictions on business which are roundly ignored by free-market fanatics and governments which lick the corporate feet.

Will everything crumble before it becomes apparent that free societies and a global economy controlled by a handful of mega-corporations are incompatible?
