Yeah, I'm sort of addicted to it too. It's a really easy way to shop.
And yes, I like the reviews. You get to avoid the duds easier.

So I need a 1/4” stereo headphone plug for some experiment I’m running. Since Radio Shack is no more, I tried three hardware stores, two audio stores and a general goods store. No luck.

Reluctantly I turned to Amazon. They have one, just like I want, for $2.65 which is a bit high but... but it ships overnight for free.

How in the world can that be profitable?

They put in a new road near me.  It's a huge 4-lane highway with sidewalks, a little bridge, a roundabout, a 4-way stoplight...

All to connect two residential developments.  Granted, the other one is a high end development overlooking the sound, with $2-5 million homes, but it still seemed excessive.

They opened it for traffic Monday, so I drove its 3/4 mile length.

Halfway down, unbeknownst to me, was an Amazon distribution center, located in a huge old unused Boeing building.  The parking lot held a couple hundred Amazon delivery vans.

Mystery solved.

Amazon carries EVERYTHING.

The glossy cardboard stock I buy for CD covers is a private label from Office Depot, and they recently closed the Office Depot nearest me.  Faced with the prospect of driving ten miles to the next nearest OD, I checked Amazon online.

Yep, they carry it.  For 2/3 the price I'm used to paying!

Tuesday I was notified a DVD I had ordered had been delivered. My dogs usually alert me to any deliveries.

Checked the front porch. No package.

Checked the delivery notification message, which these days includes a photo of the delivery. There was my package, sitting on a doorstep... but it was not MY doorstep. I logged into Amazon, where there's an option for "delivered to wrong address." That was Tuesday evening.

Didn't hear anything Wednesday. Amazon did not respond, no neighbors came over bearing DVDs. There's a house directly behind me with the same street numbers (different street) but GPS always mixes us up. I've redelivered Barbara's wine shipments several times, so I suspect that's where my package ended up. But I don't feel comfortable just marching over there and asking for it.

So last night I requested a refund from Amazon, giving the excuse that it was delivered to the wrong address. The refund process is a little wonky, it asks how you're going to return the product. One option is to have UPS pick it up. So I did that, and put Barbara's address as the pickup address.

That should confuse the heck out of UPS, unless by some miracle the same driver comes out.

Mailman re-delivered my DVD yesterday -- picked it up from my neighbor and delivered it to me.

I canceled my refund request.

Frankly, I didn't expect it to work out this well.

Much as I still love ordering from Amazon, I may have to temper my enthusiasm for the company at large.

Quite a comedown for someone who was, at one time, among the Top-50 reviewers. I guess one of their editors must have read my review where I complained that Amazon was being overrun with 1-star "reviews" of Rachel's book, from people who hadn't purchased the book through Amazon, and obviously hadn't bothered to read the book either. I pointed out that, as a large corporation, Amazon must be afraid to police their own content for fear of upsetting the mouth-breathing non-reading public who buy all the Hitler books to display on their bookshelves.

Nah. I didn't really say that. But I should've.
