Trump Ends DACA

That's it, he has no heart.

He pardons a convicted felon idiot like Arpaio, but he submits 800,000 people to prosecution, people brought into this country as children, who have become productive citizens, who have broken no laws, whose information was shared with ICE through DACA, who will now be deported post haste.

Unfuckingbelieveable.

And he has the gall to foist off onto Congress the responsibility for fixing it. In the vain hope that their inevitable failure to do so will reflect badly on them, instead of himself.

Congress returned from their summer vacation with an already full agenda:

• Raise the debt ceiling
  
• Write the 2018-19 budget
  
• Pass the NDAA
  
• Reform the tax code
  
• Replace/repair Obamacare
  
• Fund CHC
  
• Extend NFIP
  
• Hurricane Harvey recovery bill
  
• Hurricane Irma recovery bill

Now he has added Fix DACA.

This from a Congress that has yet to pass a single significant piece of legislation.

Remember when I said Trump might be the grenade that destroys the Republican party?

I have heard that opinion expressed many times.

But there may be an alternative. Consider if the Republican Congress found some balls and rid the country of DT. I can envision a huge sigh of relief and great admiration for the Republicans' actions. They would probably look a lot better to a lot of people.

60 votes in the Senate.

Never gonna happen.

67 votes in the Senate. Two-thirds are required for conviction.

Thought it was a supermajority. Is that 60 or 67?

Either way, unreachable under any foreseeable scenario.

I should amend this. Rachel summarized the history of DACA the other night, and it's germane for those of us who forgot.

Congress tried to pass a DACA act for something like seven years. Could never get a consensus. So Obama plopped one in place by executive action.

Is it illegal? Is it executive overreach? Possibly. But only because Congress was unable to pass the legislation. So what Trump & Sessions are doing is putting a gun to Congress' head and giving them six months to finally do what they couldn't do in seven years, with a much less divided (and much more successful) Congress. And if they fail, DACA goes away.

Or should I say, WHEN they fail.

Chief Justice John Roberts just kicked Trump in the nuts.  He told the government that their case was so poorly constructed and poorly argued that he had no choice but to rule against them.

In response, Trump cited the Second Amendment (WTF?) about the people's right to bear arms.  He used a particularly vile hyperbole, calling the SCOTUS decision "a shotgun blast in the face."

Wait.  Wasn't that Cheney who blasted his hunting buddy in the face?

Anyway, somebody'll have to explain what gun rights have to do with the Dreamers act.  Maybe Trump thought DACA was NRA?
