| 130mph sustained winds, 155mph gusts. Category 4. Twelve foot storm surge. Up to 33" rain.
Corpus Christie is directly in the path.
Trump's declaration of a state of emergency -- or lack thereof -- will be major news this weekend. Trump's Katrina. |

| I do not understand why networks (The Weather Channel) send their reporters to broadcast from the path of the hurricane. The first time one of them gets swept into the water, or killed by blowing debris, we'll see changes in policy.
But why wait. |

| Harvey is "messin' with Texas." Does he have any idea how much trouble he is in? |

| The documented rainfall of 51.88 inches sets a new record for the lower 48 states, rainfall from a tropical storm. |

| From the pictures on the news, it looks like the land is so flat down there that the flooding is widespread but not particularly deep. A foot or two in most areas.
That's still enough to ruin houses, and businesses, and vehicles. But maybe not enough to threaten lives so much.
The other factor is this: insurance generally EXCLUDES flood damage. Almost all of this damage will be uncovered by insurance. There will be fights, over the next few months, over how much federal money FEMA makes available.
Especially if the same conditions move into Louisiana, which is poorer and blacker than Texas. If Herr Trump funds Houston's recovery but not New Orleans, it will cause another racial rift. |

Where did you get this number? I have read that about 100,000 homes were destroyed or damaged by Harvey. I saw the number 950,000 as the number of homes destroyed or damaged in India, Bangladesh and Nepal. |
