Our new GE dishwasher is scarily quiet. Sometimes, standing right next to it, I can't tell if it's running or not. It does a good job of cleaning dishes, but it's not fast. The normal cycle is two hours, pot scrubbing is three.
I think all the new dishwashers take a long time. It has something to do with low water usage sfaik.
My dad had bought a very expensive Bosch dishwasher (a couple grand) because water usage was an issue on the island. It took 3 hours for any cycle. And OMG it was noisy. You literally could not talk in the living room while it was running in the kitchen. We had to start it before going to bed, then lay awake while it churned away.
The Kenmore dishwasher in our old house is about 7-8 years old, and normal. It does a fantastic job of cleaning, and the cycle is maybe 90 minutes. Probably uses a lot of water. Noise level is moderate but not obnoxious.
I find it somewhat remarkable that a standard appliance like dishwashers can vary so much manufacturer-to-manufacturer. You don't find that variation in refrigerators, washers or dryers.
