I don't know if you've seen the TV show Castle. The basic set-up is that a rich and famous best-selling author, Rick Castle, has used his friendship with the mayor to wangle time and ride-alongs with an NYPD detective (Beckett). He is now writing a series of fictional books about a detective Nikki Heat, obviously based on his experiences and "research" with Beckett. I like the stars, Nathan Fillion and Stana Kacic, and think it's pretty cute and funny a lot of the time.
Well, this afternoon I happened to stop into a Barnes & Noble to get a latte from their cafe. As I was leaving, one of the paperbacks for sale caught my eye. "Heat Wave", written by Richard Castle. It seems an enterprising publisher has set his house authors to the task of producing the Nikki Heat books that get mentioned on the show as part of the back story.
This cracked me up.
