Citizens readily accept a temporary curtailment of their civil liberties during wartime. There was rationing, information blackouts, propaganda and huge budget-busters during WWII, 1942-1945.

Three years.

The "War on Terror" is coming up on twelve years (Wednesday), with no signs of victory or even progress. I think Mr. & Mrs. John Q. Public are growing weary of the war-time footing -- as evidenced by the huge resistance to another Mid-East adventure.

That's one of the most ridiculous court rulings I've ever seen.

It seems to me an indication that the lawlessness that is apparent at the top levels of government is spreading downwards. There are laws for the 99%, but the 1% and big corporations don't suffer any penalties. And now other federal agencies don't need to sweat the details either. Next will be local government, and then we will officially be living in a banana republic.
