| The reality is a little less alarmist than the headline: - Quote :
- SG: Just because the school district reports an offense it doesn't mean that any subsequent action will take place. It is up to the discretion of law enforcement, the juvenile office, [and] the prosecutors to determine whether a student should be charged with a crime or if action needs to be brought in juvenile court regarding the actions of the particular students. So there is a lot of discretion on the law enforcement end of it to determine if this actually results in any kind of criminal record for the students, but school districts do not have that discussion.

| The reality is that black kids will get a lot more criminal records than white kids. And it will be starting in grade school. |

That is not less alarming. The fact that law enforcement and prosecutors could be involved in a spat between two children is absolutely disgusting. This fucking country has gone bonkers with the treatment of children. You probably the seven-year-old girl who got tasered. There is no rational excuse for the brutality being inflicted on children. Two kids having it out on the school grounds is not a crime - it's called "childhood". |

| Generally speaking what you say is true. But these days there are some social misfits who are more than bullies; they're dangerous. With everything kids are exposed to today, some just pick up a bit too much street smarts at too young an age.
And the article isn't talking about grade school, it's talking about 17 year olds. |

| What's the difference between a "social misfit" and an asshole? We all went to school with assholes and very damn few of them turned into serial killers or "mad bombers." I think most of them are in Congress today. Wait..that's not a good defense. Never mind. Only 17 years olds? - Quote :
- The mandated reporting laws require that we contact law enforcement. For most of our students, they are under the age of 17 and that would probably be the juvenile office. For the students that are 17 or older, we would call the police.
Juvenile Office or Police - it's still law enforcement. Give the kids a fucking break. |
