| I read a lot, always have. Most of what I read is crap, but then, most of what is published is crap. I thought this list was interesting, with some obviously good choices and some distinctly strange ones. 50 Books to Read Before You Die |

| Harry Potter (x2!)? Ulysses? The Bible?
I've read probably 2/3 of this list and most of them were good reads, but this is not a list put together by a bibliophile. |

| I don't understand putting Harry Potter in there either. (I've read all seven of the books, and they are good, but I don't think my life would be impoverished if I never read them.) His Dark Materials is on my list to get around to someday, but it is a trilogy, as is The Lord Of The Rings. So if you want to put Potter on the list, why not all seven as one entry?
I think I read Ulysses in school and wasn't impressed. And certainly I was forced to read some E.M.Forster and thought he was vastly over-rated. But they are rated very highly by quite a few people, so I can understand them getting on the list.
I do think everyone should read the bible. Guaranteed to cure you of being a christian, if nothing else. |

I see no value in doing so.

| When you see what a mish-mash it is, and see all the nastiness that is in there, you can't take christianity seriously any more. |

| I can see that without actually reading the damn thing. In fact, I can't imagine the tedium of trying to follow all those begettings. |

| There are some parts you can skim without missing anything significant. |

| I picked one up and, as I often do, looked for the "About the Author" page. Couldn't find it so I put the book down. Now there's some efficient skimming for you.

| If you want to read a book about Jesus, I highly recommend this one. Really. It's a hoot. |

LARGE parts. Pretty much everything from Genesis to Revelations. |
