Ambivalence and Confusion about Trump Empty
PostSubject: Ambivalence and Confusion about Trump   Ambivalence and Confusion about Trump EmptyThu Feb 23, 2017 10:23 am

Just some random disconnected thoughts here. I can't seem to form them into a narrative.
  1. 84% of Republicans say they're pleased with Trump's first month. 8% of Democrats do.
  2. Trump still draws huge crowds to his rallies, and his supporters remain enthusiastic.
  3. Anti-Trump rallies also continue to be vociferous and well attended.
  4. The lefty press -- MSNBC, CNN, NPR, Huffington Post -- as well as the MSM -- ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, etc. -- all declare disaster right around the corner, impeachment is imminent, 25th Amendment, nuclear war, Armageddon. The right wing press say Trump is the most popular and successful president ever. There is no evidence they're talking about the same Administration.
  5. The same LWP and MSM declared that there was no mathematical pathway for Trump to win the Electoral College, that Clinton was a shoo-in. Therefore they have lost a lot of (maybe ALL) credibility with me, and I don't know who to believe anymore.
  6. YouTube and TV talk shows are filled with voters expressing their support for Mr. Trump and his policies, despite all the batshit crazy stuff reported by the MSM.
  7. Most of these supporters appear to be clinically sane (though often not terribly bright)
  8. Congress has had several chances to rein in Trump's excesses and deny his batshit crazy Cabinet choices, yet has consistently failed to do so
  9. A month into the Trump Administration still very little of his campaign platform has been realized. Obamacare is still in place. The immigration ban was struck down. Hillary is not incarcerated. There's no sign of an infrastructure bill or changes to education or the return of manufacturing or increased tariffs on Chinese goods
  10. There have also been no domestic terrorist attacks, that I've heard of
  11. The stock market is up 12%

The media were merely reporting on the numbers provided by polls. They didn't make shit up, they just reported it. And according to the polls, there was no way DT could win. This is not a lack of credibility with the news media, but with the pollsters.

Something like eighty-five percent of the manufacturing jobs lost in the past few decades has been because of automation. Those jobs did not move offshore - they disappeared and they are not coming back. DT's claim that he will restore manufacturing jobs is completely bullshit.

And yet there have been small successes -- I can't recall the particulars, but Mike Pence spent $8m of taxpayer money to keep 100 Carrier jobs in Wisconsin or wherever. Boeing agreed to make the 797 in Kansas or something. Some toaster manufacturer closed a plant in Mexico and moved north.

The predicted Big Disasters if Trump won have not materialized. Yet.

A third of the new Boeing airplanes' components are made outside the US. And not in poor countries: they are made in Germany, Italy, France, etc.

The deal Pence made has nothing to do with Trump. It was already in the works. But keeping a few jobs from moving is not the same are creating the jobs that have already been lost.

Yes yes, that's what the Left is saying, every one of them. But you know what? I'm not so sure anymore. I'm not sure the president has enough power to really fuck things up. I'm not sure things aren't already about as fucked up as they can get.

I'm not so sure apocalypse is around the corner.
