| Got an email this morning, out of the blue, from Comcast notifying me they'd increased my internet speed from 150mbps to 200mbps. So I rebooted my Comcast modem and ran an Ookla speed test:
- 215.11 mbps download speed
- 11.98 mbps upload speed
- 30 ms ping
In previous tests I have measured: 3/17/2015:
- 123.56 mbps download speed
- 12.37 mbps upload speed
- 10 ms ping
12/3/2013:
- 57.75 mbps download speed
- 11.48 mbps upload speed
- 28 ms ping
4/6/2013:
- 31.03 mbps download
- 2.00 mbps upload speed
- 22 ms ping
I'm certainly glad to have the faster download speed -- I have enjoyed having lightning fast music downloads -- but I'm not quite sure what it means to have my upload speeds getting slower, or my ping responses getting slower. |

| A single test can be misleading. You need to test the connection several times and average the readings. In your case, the ping is meaningless. It's obvious from the fast speed that the slow ping cannot be correlated with latency as it can be in other cases. I just tested my connection and it showed 3.59mb download speed and 21ms ping. - NoCoPilot wrote:

Yeah, you must have gotten tired of waiting several seconds to download a file at 150 mbps. Poor baby. I wonder what it would cost to run a cable from your house to mine..... |

| Now that Comcast has finished fucking with my internet, I've been using it this morning and it seemed pretty frisky. Decided to run an Ookla on it:
- 225.57 mbps download speed
- 12.17 mbps upload speed
- 27 ms ping
Not bad. Not bad at all. |

| My numbers have stayed fairly consistent at about 28-29 download, 5 upload. I don't usually do really intensive stuff, so that's been fine for me. |

Muchly. When I was a kid, we used the word "Fugly." Which, of course, meant "fucking ugly." |

| Mea culpa. I forgot the units.
That was 560 Bytes per second. |

| Today it's running nearly 1000 times that speed. Which is still miserably slow.

| I think my first modem was a 6.3kbps and I was thrilled to have it! When the 15.2s came out I couldn't BELIEVE the luxury. |

| I don't remember a 6.3 or 15.2 kbps modem. Perhaps you mean 4800 or 9600 and 14.4 kbps.
Early on, I had 300, 1200, and 2400 baud modems. And long distance calls were really expensive.

| I'm at
- 116.89 download
- 36.71 upload
- 12 ms ping
But I need to review my cable package. I hope I don't end up slower. |

This is the best it ever gets. Normally, it's significantly slower.
I expect sympathy.

| You can no longer get DSL from AT&T. In another year or two, they are going to shut it down altogether. I will be left with the options of satellite or wireless. Both of which are slow and expensive.

| If we decided to move to "civilization," the internet would play no part in the decision making.
