Movie: Rogue One

It was really good, as expected. Some aspects of Crouching Tiger in the magical martial arts scenes, a lot of Star Wars history woven in, engine noises in space, unbelievable coincidences. The explosions sounds were really loud and really powerful -- they seemed to physically rattle the screen. The special effects were really good, although there may have been too many of them. There was humor. There was pathos. There were quiet moments, although there may not have been enough of them. Many plot points were ridiculous but we shan't critique Star Wars on believability.

It was very entertaining.

There were some digital cameos in the film.

Technology has advanced to the point where it's possible to use motion capture on another actor to move a digital simulacrum of a dead actor's face.  There are legal issues, but the technical issues seem to have just about been solved.


I wonder if it would be technically possible to take a dead singer's voice, and create a waveform representation of its eccentricities, and using a wave follower or auto-tune to recreate that voice singing something it never sung?  Seems likely.
