I realized this morning that the whole Merrick Garland episode illustrates something nefarious, and we didn't even realize it.
Garland is a centrist choice -- recommended by Orrin Hatch and given approval by Mitch McConnell -- nominated for the Supreme Court by Obama way back in March. That far back Hillary was widely expected to win in November.
Yet the Senate refused to even hold a hearing, saying (in an unprecedented move) the next president should appoint a candidate. Why would they do that, if Clinton was likely to win and likely to appoint an even-more-liberal judge?
They must have known, clear back in March, that no matter who the Republicans ended up nominating (March 15th was both "Super Tuesday for the Republicans and the date Garland was nominated) he would win in November, despite the polls, despite the popular election. They were telegraphing to the country that the election would be rigged.
