I'll have to take your word for that. I can't recall having heard of any of them except for the Coltrane, Blakey, and Alpert. And, of course, P-24067 - Love me some Gerry Mulligan. |

| Mulligan was never on Prestige Records. 24067 is J.J. Johnson - "Early Bones." |

- This two-LP set features three different trombonists in a variety of settings. On the first album, J.J. Johnson is heard leading a sextet in 1949 with the young tenor-saxophonist Sonny Rollins and trumpeter Kenny Dorham, Kai Winding heads a group with tenorman Brew Moore and baritonist Gerry Mulligan (although trumpeter Jerry Lloyd, who is listed in the personnel, is not on the date) and Bennie Green in 1951 jams with a high-powered septet that also includes baritonist Rudy Williams and the tough tenors of Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis and Big Nick Nicholas. Green is also heard with a sextet in 1955 that matches his personable sound with that of tenor-saxophonist Charlie Rouse but the bulk of the second album is taken up by the first official recordings of the popular J.J. Johnson-Kai Winding quintet. Throughout this two-fer, there are many memorable performances, especially by the trio of talented trombonists.

| Okay, you're right. Mulligan is listed as a sideman on four of the 24 tracks.
The album however is under J.J. Johnson's, Kai Winding's and Bennie Green's names. |

| Man, talk about some SAD SHIT.
A few years ago the mother of an old friend of mine had to move into a nursing home, and he asked me to look at her LPs. I bought a couple dozen for a couple bucks apiece, just to help her out and prevent her having to move them. I never played any of them.
In my cataloging of my record collection I finally reached Attila Zoller, and started looking at the loose records after Z to see if any were sellable. Ran across the records I bought from Mamie -- 101 Strings, Persuasive Percussion, Sounds of the Cinema, and so forth. I played a couple of them. Man, that's some sad shit. I mean, did people really listen to that junk? Even the musicians in the Muzak orchestra sound bored. |

| Different strokes, NoCo. Differnt strokes.
"Persuasive Percussion" was number one on Billboard for thirteen weeks and was in the top forty for 105 weeks.
It was 1959, for christ's sake! Give the old broad a break.
Would you like me to pick out the albums of yours you have listed which I find nauseating?
Different strokes.

| Okay. Perhaps "nauseating" was far too strong a word. I should reserve that one for Lawrence Welk.
But people do have different tastes in all forms of entertainment. I have noticed from your posts in in the Arts & Entertainment forum that you and I seem to have quite different tastes in some areas. That does not mean that I think you are insane or that I have superior taste. Just different preferences. Not better. Not worse. Just different. It is all subjective. Except for country music. That's where I draw the line! Bob Newhart was right.

| In assembling my database I got to Tammy Wynette before I had to use the "Country" genre description. Then I went back and changed Patti Page and Patsy Cline. |

| I'm glad you "love you some Gerry Mulligan" because I have 29 LPs under his name and at least that many more he appears on. Several CDs too. Always loved the baritone sax -- Cecil Payne, Pepper Adams, umm, that other guy. Carney, not Art though 'cos he's Ed Norton.
Also contra-bassoon.

| Except for the alphabetical counts, I'm not sure what many of the other labels are.
I sincerely hope that the albums under 'Z' are heavy on Warren Zevon and completely absent of Zamfir.

| Blues Classical Comedy Country Disco (my wife's...) Electronic Easy Listening Folk Gospel Hip Hop Jazz New Age Rock Reggae Spoken Sound Effects Soundtracks
These are very broad categories, encompassing many sub-genres.
Z is mostly bolstered by Frank Zappa but there are two Zamfir albums, one belonging to my friend's mother Mamie, and one I bought that is under his full name Gheorghe Zamfir, an album of improvisations with a pipe organ that was done before he went New Age.

| This is interesting.
I sent the list to two large stores in the area who carry used LPs. One of them wrote back IMMEDIATELY and said they would call me to discuss. Turns out they buy whole collections, not cherry picking, and if I'm willing to accept less than full retail they'd like to come out and evaluate the collection. He said I have "many interesting pieces."
We'll see what they offer. It'd be nice to have one buyer take everything, even at 25 cents on the dollar.
Then I got an email from a friend of mine in Germany. He wants to buy the whole collection too and ship it to Germany. I told him he's crazy. He's offering me crazy money though.
The store said they have tens of thousands of classical LPs in their warehouse that they can't even put out on their shelves. The "LP revival" is driven by hipster 20-somethings, and they're buying classic rock and mono jazz. The intersection of classical music listeners and the LP buying public is very, very tiny he said. They can't GIVE away classical LPs.
So, we'll see. |

You just bought a new turntable. That's like breaking up with your girlfriends after buying a big bottle of Viagra.
