It's a valid question -- one I suspect will loom large in the next two weeks as The Donald begins to realize just what he's bitten off.

Tonight -- on the eve of his inauguration -- Trump gave a speech at his pre-inaug dinner where he spent most of it talking about how much he won the election by, and what a "great victory" it was.

The man's in for some neck-snapping reality checks tomorrow.

The only explanation for that would be coincidence.

The reason DT wanted to be president was to feed his ego. That's it.

I think he was originally interested in establishing brand name recognition in the political sphere. He fancied himself a spokesman for a "movement" which would allow him to influence lawmakers and shape regulations and tax laws to his advantage, a Sharptonesque "man of the people" (potential leader of a mob), and I believe the stories about a planned Trump-Breitbart media corporation. Having fifteen or sixteen opponents in the primaries really worked to his advantage though — all the "better" candidates wasted their ammo on each other and, as an oafish buffoon, he got lots of coverage without having to spend much money. Once he saw that he was going to win the primaries and actually stood a chance in the general election I don't think it took much for him to get into gear and go after the whole enchilada, but the substantial lack of deep staff and vetted people ready to work indicates that originally, they might not have been expecting to do as well as they did. Whatever he wanted or didn't want, he managed to be declared the winner.

I think this guy has it right.
