I just installed a new cartridge on my turntable. While waiting for it to arrive, I had thought, "I have to go dig out my old Chess albums."

I installed the cartridge a couple of hours ago. Then I had a cup of coffee and flipped through a magazine. There was a short article about Phil Chess dying. Hope it wasn't my fault.

Once would be coincidence.

Twice would be correspondence -- you weren't also thinking about Dave Broadfoot were you?

Never having heard of Dave Broadfoot, it's unsurprising that I had not thought of him. In the magazine it also noted that Bobby Vee had died. Him I've heard of, but not since I was a kid.

Haven't dug out the Chess albums yet, but have been playing a few old ones.
Just listened to a 35-year-old Chick Corea LP on a 30-year-old turntable and 20-year-old speakers. Out-fucking-standing!

I don't want to get into a CD vs LP discussion, but I cannot discern anything missing that a CD would provide. I may just get back into LPs as my main music source, Yeah, I know: heresy (but that seems appropriate - my speakers are Heresy IIs).

Nope, CDs are missing a lot:
  • surface noise
  • groove rumble
  • pops and clicks
  • turntable rumble
  • limited lifespan
  • deterioration with each play

I have no discernible surface noise, groove rumble, pops and clicks, or turntable rumble on my records. One must use decent equipment and take proper care of the records so that these don't happen. Of course, I realize one can buy a recording with these problems in place. I try not to.

As to limited lifespan and deterioration with each play - I'm 72 years old. I am subject to these problems more than records are. Evil or Very Mad
