Well, maybe not imminent - but then again, maybe...

Quote :
For the next few days, the risk of a major earthquake along the fault is as high as 1 in 100.

Actually, that was mostly last week. If it hasn't happened yet, it probably isn't going to. Then again, I'm reminded of the joke about the surprise hanging.

Well, shit! Let's hope it doesn't happen. The San Andreas Fault is as close as thirty-three miles from me.

“Swarm-like activity in this region has occurred in the past, so this week’s activity, in and of itself, is not necessarily cause for alarm,” cautions the USGS.
Until he was hung on Tuesday.

The USGS dude who said there's no cause for alarm probably lives in Maine, or some other shitty (but stable) little state.

For those of us who live near that damned big crack, anything larger than a hiccup is cause for alarm, or at least concern.

I will get alarmed if I damned well please. The last time we had a quake here, in 2003, there were houses within a mile of me that suffered damage in the hundreds of thousands. And two people were killed just ten miles away. The fault that caused that quake, a 6.6, was tiny compared to San Andreas.

It's best not to forget the warnings of Shango.

How many reasons do you need to move?

The problem is finding another place I would like as well.
Let's see ... it would have to have no earthquakes, no wildfires, no floods, no hurricanes, and no tornadoes. It has to have really nice (i.e., warm and dry) weather most of the time. It cannot be populated with Trump supporters or other assorted bubbas. The housing has to be reasonably priced and the lots have to be  large; I don't want the house next door to be close enough that I can hear the inhabitants. At night it has to be quiet with no car noise, and dark with no street lights. And, of course, the air has to be clean.

Any suggestions?

Let me expand on one item: The air not only has to be clean, it must also exist and support human life. And feline life.

Too cold.
And it sounds like the name of a conservative economist.

I hadn't looked at it that way.
You may have a point (but so did Zippy).

Geologists are constantly finding previously-undiscovered faults and connections.
Remember that the western portion of California is on the Pacific plate, while the rest of the country is on the North American plate. The San Andreas Fault is the place where the two plates abut. And the plates are in constant, albeit slow, movement.
