The supreme irony here, which I've never seen discussed anywhere, is that the NRA receives almost half its revenue from membership dues even though the vast majority of its own members oppose the NRA's political stances.

Isn't that EXACTLY why the Republicans fought to make union membership and union dues optional, for workers who don't support organized labor's entrenched support of Democratic politics?

Members' money being used to support causes the members don't necessarily agree with.

I get that. But there is no correlation between the two types of membership. The Republicans only attack the union memberships because the union have historically supported Democrats. The big irony here is that you are writing as though you believe the Republicans are capable of acting rationally.
