95º in Seattle today, a new record for this day.

That sounds so odd for someone who has lived for so long in an area where 95 degrees is not considered to be a big deal. But I imagine the humidity there makes it miserable at that temp.

I have always hated rain, but at this point I may need to reconsider.

I appreciate that. We're not in any real trouble at this time, but if things are still roaring when the Santa Anas kick in, it could be a whole new game. I've seen it before.

Shit! The damned thing has grown to 24,096 acres. I wonder if it will stop before it reaches the ocean.

And the beat goes on. Now up to 31,644 acres. It has moved into Monterey County and to within three miles of Hearst Castle.
They still say thirty-five percent contained. There are now over 3,500 personnel fighting the thing.

"None"? You mean zero percent relative humidity?

I always imagined that Seattle would be much more humid, even when it's hot.

Twenty-seven percent at ninety-five degrees should not be too bad. Everything being relative - around here when we talk about low humidity, we mean in or near single digits.

You should try southeast Asia at ninety degrees and near one hundred percent relative humidity. Fucking miserable.

I think Brooklyn was close to that for some of the last two weeks. Much cooler now (highs in the low 80s) and also not nearly so humid.

Yeah, my daughter was complaining about the weather in Brooklyn.

It is actually a very pleasant day here today, but I have to keep all the windows closed because of the smoke and ash.

The latest report from CalFire (California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection) shows no increase in the acreage since this morning's report. Don't know if that's a good sign or if they just haven't updated the number. They now list 1,900 structures currently threatened. That's up significantly.

They've added more personnel; now just under 3,800, with 311 fire trucks.

If God had meant for cars to be washed, he would have given them arms and hands.

I will have to clean out the interior of the truck. I leave the windows open slightly during the hot months and it now has ash on the black upholstery. I know the fix for that: gray upholstery!

CalFire has just issued a statement that all of those in evacuation areas are urged to leave immediately, owing to increased fire activity this afternoon. They have described the fire activity last night and this afternoon as extreme.

When the fire hit 27,00 acres, it was noted that it was the tenth largest fire in the County's history. Don't know where it will fall now. For reference, the fire that caused my family to have to evacuate in 1985, at 85,000 acres, was the second largest fire in the county's history. The largest fire in the county's history was in 1996; it burned 106,668 acres. That was also the fourteenth largest fire in California's history. That fire was started by an old truck being parked in dry grass.

Latest numbers put the fire at over 33,000 acres. This is our local fire. We also have, within a hundred miles, a 24,000-acre fire to the south, and an 85,000-acre fire to the north. The air quality is for shit.

The smoke was so heavy yesterday that they couldn't use their air tankers until around seven pm, so only a few flights. Another busy night and the fire is now just over 37,000 acres.

The good news is that the fire is now 39% contained.
The bad news is that it has now burned 41,000 acres.
They have 4,100 personnel on it now and the weather is supposed to be more favorable Thursday and Friday.

Things are looking up (I think). 41% contained and 44,000 acres. Seems to be slowing down.
Today, for the first time in several days, there was almost no smoke here at the house. Last couple of days was horrible.
