There seems to be some real question about exactly how rich Donald Trump is, with his numerous business bankruptcies and massive personal debt. Drumpf has so far refused to release his tax records, and it's beginning to look like he won't before the election.

But I have a question. Why should he have to release his tax records?

Presumably the IRS has him on file. He's running for public office. Why can't the IRS release twenty years of tax records, with or without his permission? The public has a right to know if our politicians pay taxes, if they have overseas bank accounts, if they are who they say they are. Why is it up to the candidates at all?

The IRS can't release his tax records because it is against the law.

Trump has promised on the campaign trail to do things, if he's elected, that are blatantly illegal, immoral, and against international codes of conduct.

Why should he be afforded any respect, any protection of the law, that he so willfully disregards?

So you want the IRS to violate the law in order to punish Trump for being an asshole?

What do shoes have to do with it?

He is not required by law to publicize his tax returns. If he was, then the courts could force the IRS to release them. Until then, he is within the law and should be treated so. His status as a major asshole does preclude his protection under the law.
