In the wake of the Brussels bombings I am left asking once again what is the point?
People who recruit suicide bombers hope to bring attention to their cause(s), which are, apparently, the establishment of a pan-Arabic Islamic caliphate? How exactly is that agenda advanced through random bombings of soft targets?
Timothy McVeigh had a beef against government and government buildings. The 9/11 hijackers attacked World Trade. Charlie Manson hoped to incite a race war (for reasons known only to him). The Charlie Hebdo attackers didn't like cartoonists.
But people who blow up airports, airplanes, train stations, trains, places of worship, markets, random shit... I just don't get it. It seems entirely unproductive, yet it persists.
Why.
