| One could get picky and point out that SOD and EOD are the same. Therefore 11:59:59 is not actually EOD.

| No, one wouldn't. But sometimes, for accuracy, one must.

| I guess I don't understand eye glasses and the way eyeballs work. My eyes aren't bad. I don't wear glasses all the time and have only used them for driving for about a year now.
A couple of nights ago, my wife called me out to the deck to look at the sky. The moon was just a sliver and Venus was very bright just below and to the left of the moon. Didn't look very interesting. But she said how cool it looked with Venus, the moon, and Mars together.
I couldn't see Mars, which she said was between the moon and Venus.
"Go get your glasses," she said.
"That won't make any difference," I said sarcastically, "Mars is a couple hundred million miles away, and I'm sure the focal length of the glasses is a little less than that."
"Just go get your glass." She was insistent that Mars was visible and appeared to be red.
I got my glasses, and Mars popped into view. Red. Between the moon and Venus.
Why do glasses make a difference when looking at something hundreds of millions of miles away? |

| Question: Are both your eyes on the same side of your head? |

| The light rays entering your eye may have started millions of miles away or six feet away. Your eye doesn't actually care, and neither do the glasses. All the focussing they are doing is between the front of the glass and the back of your eyeball.

| That sounds reasonable, Richard, but I'm not sure it's correct. My driving glasses do not properly focus something that is close; an object will appear blurry (including the gauges on the dash). But objects more than about 10 or 12 feet away are fine.

| When the power fails, my UPS notifies me with a message box and an audio message. Why does the woman who says, "The power has failed. You are operating on battery." have a British accent?

| What accent does she have when the UPS fails? |

| I'm not sure what the accent is, but it sounds very much like Gilbert Gottfried.

| That circumstances should be avoided then, at all costs. |

| Why do the bad guys always put large count-down displays and blinking lights on their bombs? Wouldn't it seem reasonable that they would want to be unobtrusive?

| It's called "story."
Real bombers don't. |

| rhe·tor·i·cal rəˈtôrək(ə)l/ adjective (of a question) asked in order to produce an effect or to make a statement rather than to elicit information.

| Now that I've got that out of my system...
We all understand the reason the director will add displays, flashing lights - maybe even beepers - to bombs.
My question was why do the bad guys do it? Any ideas?
It adds to the cost of the bomb and they need to write the software for the timer. And I'm sure the bad guys' plan assumes that no one will ever see the timer. But possibly there is a bomber supply store that carries ready-made displays for bombs.

| WTF, dude? It's not real.
Real bombs use matchbooks, or alarm clocks, or iPhones to trigger. Something simple, cheap and unobtrusive. |

| Never mind. I know that it's not real. I know it's all made-up shit. I'm not a fucking idiot! Can't you just play along and pretend to come up with a reason? Just for shits and giggles? Must everything be so god damned literal for you? |

| Things I don't understand: how half a population can be willing, nay, anxious to shoot themselves in the foot with a Trump or Brexit. |

| Why is the building called an "embassy" but the person who works there is an "ambassador"? |
