What's Unusual

What do you see in this picture that is very unusual, even for the sixties?

I give up. Jimi playing a right-hand strat upside down, strung backwards, was his usual. The mics and mic stands look normal. There is a huge-ass horn driver in the background but that's not particularly weird either (tried to figure out where this picture was taken, but failed).

So... No clue.

I was looking for the guitar bit. It was usual for Hendrix, but I cannot recall another guitar player using a strat upside down.

There are more left-handed guitar players than expected, and some of them had weird methods. Dick Dale, for example, was left-handed and played a left-handed guitar, but had it strung backwards, as for a right-hand guitar. He had learned to play left-handed on a right-hand-strung guitar, so had his left-hand guitars restrung.

There are also a lot of guitar players who are left handed but play guitar right handed.

Part of Hendrix's sound, a small part, came from his unique technique of restringing a right hand guitar for left hand playing. The thick stings were where the thin strings were supposed to be. It gave his guitars a different sort of resonance.

I can't imagine that the position of the strings would make any difference on an electric guitar.
