The other day I noticed a Tesla Model S Coupe behind me, a beautiful cream color. These are beautiful cars, from any angle.

When we came to a stop light, he settled in about four car lengths behind me. As we took off again, I noticed he was keeping seven to ten car lengths between himself and other drivers.

I thought to myself, "Ooooo, what a pain. Having such a nice car that you're constantly paranoid driving it, worried about any little scratches." Cars should be made of Kevlar or replaceable polyurethane panels.

This almost fits into the "products that do the opposite of what they're supposed to do," a car so nice you're afraid to drive it. I see $200,000 restored collector cars on TV and think, when would you ever get to enjoy such a beast?

The driver of the Tesla is not necessarily paranoid - just aware of how many incompetent, careless drivers there are on the road.

His caution causes no harm or inconvenience to others, and provides him with a margin of safety. I don't understand why that bothers you.

The dividing line between "caution" and "paranoid" is about three car lengths.

The dividing line between "caution" and "paranoid" is the difference between reality and imagination.

Lousy drivers are, unfortunately, not imaginary.
