I ran across a couple fictitious news tidbits today (the web is lousy with them) and popped over to Snopes to verify them.

Which got me to thinking.  Snopes has been around forever, and is widely accepted as definitive.  Who runs Snopes?

Turns out it's the work of two people, Barbara and David Mikkelson, and two(!) paid staffers, and the four of them do all the research.  Paid for by advertising.  No donations.

I was unable to find any reference to how many articles they've published, but it must be in the tens of thousands since 1995.

Rather a remarkable achievement, when you think of it.

Reading up about Snopes, many times they have been accused of a liberal bias or being supported by George Soros because so much of what they debunk are conservative memes about Obama or the DNC.

One article attributed this to "the well-known liberal bias of facts" -- which is a more-polite way of saying "conservatives lie."

Interesting that this is accepted to the point of being common wisdom. Interesting that conservatives (and by extension I would guess christians) are generally more gullible and credulous. Interesting that the conservative response to being proved wrong over and over is to attempt to assassinate the messenger.
