Watching a documentary on Ray Harryhausen, the sound man in the New York crew is listed as Richard Hennning.

I had to do a double take.  Hennning, with three n's in a row?

Yes, I guess it's possible. Don't recall ever seeing a letter repeated three times in anything before.

I just happened to run into this yesterday. First time I'd seen it also.
There is a place called Oooguruk, Alaska.

Henning's credit on another segment of the documentary only has two n's.

Looks like it was just a misprint. Damn.

Are there any words with the same letter three times in a row?

The answer is not really, because the usual rules of English spelling outlaw triple letters. We put hyphens in words that contain three of the same letters in a row, so as to break the letters up, e.g. bee-eater, bell-like, cross-section, cross-subsidize, joss-stick, and shell-less. A person who flees is a fleer, not a fleeer, and someone who sees is a seer, not a seeer. Chaffinches used to be called chaff finches, but when the two words were merged, one of the letter 'f's was dropped. That said, written representations of noises often contain triple letters, such as brrr, shhh, and zzz.

All in that quote seems reasonable, but if the author does not realize that "joss stick" is two words, then one must question her qualifications for writing the piece.

Grrrrrrrrr.

I have no patience for people who consider themselves wordsmiths but make mistakes.
