Movie: After Tiller

Since George Tiiler was assassinated, there are now exactly four physicians in the country who perform late-term abortions (post 25th week). The procedure is legal in nine states. In cases where the baby has severe malformations or the mother's health is threatened, not a lot of choices exist.

The bravery of these four is incredible.

The documentary shows the providers quizzing the women, and if the fetus is healthy -- and the mother's story isn't compelling enough -- they DO turn them down.  

One of them discusses, on camera, her reservations about this.  If the young woman has decided she wants an abortion, and since it is legal, the doctor wonders who put her in the god position of deciding whether the baby will live or die.  It's a heavy burden.  She concludes that only if the mother's health would be jeopardized by the abortion should she refuse.  But she doesn't always follow her own standards.

Fascinating moral dilemma.  Late term abortions are legal in these nine states, yet even the providers hesitate to do them.
