I'm enjoying Netflix; there is a plethora of really great documentaries to explore. Life Itself is about the life and final months of Roger Ebert. He led an interesting life, he was an outsized character, and although I didn't always agree with his reviews, he was passionate, and passion makes anything more interesting. The background scenes with him and Gene Siskel were hilarious, as they bickered off-camera and during the making of some promo clips. The story of his falling in love and getting married for the first time at age 50 were amazing. The care and love that went into this tribute -- although it is by no means a whitewash job -- are inspiring.
And when he decided to give up and let cancer take him, I cried.
It hit all my buttons. I wish I could do him justice with a proper review.
